I’m a Scarf Girl, are You?

When I was about 20 I bought my first designer scarf.

It was a beautiful purple and green floral print silk piece from Lanvin Paris.

It had a very nice heavy weight and elegant hand rolled edges.

I was thrilled with it!

I wore that scarf to death; around my neck, around my waist, even my head, and every time I did I felt very confident and posh.

Unfortunately, somewhere along the way, I lost my Lanvin scarf, but I still own many others that are over 40 years old that have stood the test of time.

I am always on the hunt for beautiful scarves.

For those of you who follow me on Instagram or Tiktok, you know I've done a lot of scarf tying videos.

The feedback is usually very good, but lately people have been saying that they've seen enough of the scarves, or that scarves are for old ladies and they are getting tired of seeing me put them on all the time.

But us Dutch girls LOVE our scarves.

The first thing I do when I get to a thrift store is look for silk or cashmere.

It's amazing what you can find when you take the time to look and you know what you're looking for.

You can usually tell by the way a scarf is finished along the edges if it's a quality silk.

I have picked up gorgeous designer scarves for practically nothing, but that’s not to say I’m not willing to pay big $$$ for one (and I have).

A beautiful scarf is such an investment piece.

I must have worn my Louis Vuitton Stephen Sprouse Leopard print scarf at least a 1000 times over the past 15 years or so.

It broke the bank at the time but was so worth it in the long run.

If you look at any item by cost per wear, you are more likely to spend money on something you love that will last for years.

For those of you who have mentioned to me that you don’t know how to wear a scarf, just take a look at some of my earlier Instagram reels for some helpful hints.

And be sure to stay tuned, because there are more scarf tutorials to come.

If you're interested, I have linked a few scarf choices for you here.

When I see someone wear nice scarf that elevates their outfit, I always admire the extra effort.

Even when it’s just too darn hot out, I will find a way to wear a scarf.

Either on my bag or around my wrist, just to add a splash of colour.

So love them or not , I am and will always be a scarf girl.

Happy Scarf tying!
