To Botox or Not to Botox?
That is a question I'm sure a lot of you are asking yourselves.
Frankly, I was very late to the "Botox party”.
I didn't find out that my friends were getting injectables until well into my 50's.
We never really talked about it and it wasn't noticeable (which was a good thing), so I thought they just naturally looked that good.
It also wasn't until well into my 50's that things started bothering me in my own face (apart from my eye which is always bothering me).
The eyelid of my artificial eye started drooping a little more and then there was this dent in my forehead that all of a sudden appeared out of nowhere.
I went to see my family doctor about it who told me to go and get some filler injected to make the dent go away.
I was very surprised he would even suggest this and that it was even possible.
When I turned 55 I decided to make an appointment for a consultation for Botox.
At the very last minute I got cold feet and canceled. I decided it wasn't for me.
The fact that my husband thought it was a very bad idea didn't help either. And I didn't look that bad right?
Truthfully I was just afraid something would go wrong, and I would be that one person with a super droopy eyelid.
I decided I was just going to let my face do what it was going to do.
In the back of my mind I did hear this little voice once in a while telling me not to be such a chicken, but really, is this what I wanted to spend my money on?
Another couple of years went by, I thought about it once in a while but still never took the plunge.
Then in the summer of 2019 we were out on our boat with our son and daughter in law and a couple of their friends when somehow we started talking about aging skin and prevention of wrinkles (I was way past that point).
This is when my daughter-in-law piped up and said, “I get a little Botox twice a year and a bit of filler under my eyes, this way I won't get any wrinkles”.
I was absolutely floored!!! I had no idea!
That's when I also found out that most of their friends were doing the same and were all very happy with the results.
I would have never known my daughter in law was doing this if she hadn't told me.
She looks beautiful and there's no way of telling she does anything to her face.
That was it for me! I was turning 59 and I was finally going to try it!
I booked a consultation at a local Laser Clinic (Delta Laser) and the rest is history.
For my 59th birthday I treated myself to a "liquid facelift" which consisted of Botox (Nuceiva) and fillers.
I was super nervous but it was so worth it.
Because I had never done anything to my face before the difference was very noticeable to me, my husband on the other hand said I looked the same (thank goodness).
This is exactly what I wanted, I didn't want to look any different, just a little more youthful.
For maintenance, I now go twice a year for some Botox (and filler if needed),
I don't need a face without wrinkles, it is just nice to soften them a little where possible.
There is also the money part. It is not inexpensive so I pick and choose what I want done within my budget.
For me personally, Botox (Nuceiva) is worth every penny and if there is any $$$ left over I'd go for a bit of filler as well.
Obviously this is a very personal choice and truthfully I feel very vain even talking about it.
But, you have to do what works for you and what makes you feel good about yourself.
I just always feel a little lighter after I get it done so it's worth it to me. Will I keep doing it forever, probably not, at some point I'll be beyond injectables, and that's okay too.
Let me know what you think.
