And We’re Off!
After months of sanding, painting, fixing and cleaning, Captain Jeff finally has the boat ready to go.
I arrived at the marina on Monday. I always like to come a few days before we leave so I can get myself organized.
I am not going to lie, getting everything onboard for a 6 week trip is not my favourite thing to do.
There is just so much to think about and I always forget something totally obvious.
Luckily captain Jeff takes care of most of it. The only thing I'm really in charge of is the cooking.
I must have pulled a muscle when I was painting the back patio, as I have been struggling with excruciating neck pain this past week .
I'm sure I've forgotten a few things, but made sure to bring a lot of heating pads and pain pills.
The first thing on the list is always the dreaded trip to Costco (Captain Jeff's all time favourite store).
After that we usually have enough food to feed an army.
Luckily it was very quiet in the store so were in and out in no time.
Yesterday morning we woke up to cloudy skies and a forecast of high winds, so it was decided we would wait a day and hope the weather improved.
We woke up again to cloudy skies on Wednesday, but the forecast was much better for the rest of the day so off we went.
Crossing the Georgia straight was a bit rough but I’m used to that by now and thankfully I never get seasick.
Stop number one is always Sucia Island, one of the smaller San Juan Islands.
This is a Washington State park and is absolutely beautiful!
We usually start off in Shallow Bay on a buoy for a few nights to enjoy the spectacular sunsets and then move over to the opposite side of the island to dock in Fossil Bay.
Sucia Island is a great spot for hiking and exploring. We discover something new every time we come here.
You can only get to the island by boat and sometimes people are flown in just to explore and have a picnic lunch.
It is also a great place to camp. We have taken our kids many times and they pitch a tent on one of the many beautiful campsites on the beach.
At night we usually have a drink on the bow of the boat or go for a dinghy ride and hope to see some Orcas (no such luck today).
When boating I try to take clothes that are comfortable yet stylish. These pants from Spanx are perfect, they are pull on and made from this stretchy techno material that is absolutely non-seethrough. The tank top (also Spanx) is super cute, light, fast drying and non iron. So win win!
Find them here and use code RENATEXSPANX for 10% off.
My all time favourite white sneakers are these lightweight ones from Eileen Fisher. These are made from recycled plastic bottles and washable. This is the second year I am wearing these and they fit true to size and are super comfortable.
