Lopez Island to Port Townsend
After spending a lovely 2 days on Orcas Island where we got in some biking and met up with my realtor friend Jane Carhart @orcasjane whom I met through Instagram, we decided to make our way to Fishermans Bay on Lopez Island.
We have been to Lopez many times and absolutely love it there. It has a very laid back atmosphere, some great biking and, for Captain Jeff, a health food supermarket.
I don't know why but Captain Jeff always seems to want to check out the local supermarkets and somehow we always end up buying more goodies. Lets just say, we are not going to run out of food.
We only spent one night in Fishermans Bay because Wednesday seemed to be the best day to be crossing the Strait of Juan de Fuca. We have crossed the Strait before in pretty rough conditions and it is not fun!
On Wednesday we woke up to sunny skies but looking out over the water we could see a dense fog bank.
Fog is okay, it's the wind ( and waves) we worry about. As soon as we left the protection of the bay, I could tell it was going to be a bit rougher than anticipated. Captain Jeff and I don't ever get seasick so that's a bonus but let's just say it was not a relaxing ride.
It was about a 4 hour trip at 8 knots and the fog was quite dense. We constantly heard foghorns including our own. When we got closer to Port Townsend, I couldn't even see the Lighthouse coming in but then right before we entered the marina at Point Hudson the fog lifted and it was blue skies.
There are 2 marinas in Port Townsend, Boat Haven and Point Hudson. Boat Haven is quite commercial so we prefer to stay at Point Hudson which luckily had a slip for us without a reservation.
We arrived around 2.30 in the afternoon and as soon as we tied up we took a walk into town.
There are so many cute shops to look at and I always stop at my favourite consignment store called Fancy Feathers. I bought a very cute dress for $15 which I will be showing on my IG in the next week or so.
When we came back to the boat, we had drinks with our boat neighbours and then had leftover fried rice for dinner.
When we boat around the San Juans we always buy a hotspot with data so we stay connected.
Apparently we somehow used up all the data in the first 2 weeks so on Thursday morning we biked into town to get more data. On the way back we passed a lovely restaurant where Captain Jeff decided to take me for lunch.
I will say, McDonalds fries are the best!!!
In the afternoon I took another walk around the town while Captain Jeff biked to Fort Worden which is a lovely historical site.
I made (vegan) fish tacos for dinner.
We left Point Hudson on Friday and the weather was beautiful. We had a very smooth ride over and we will be spending the next few days in Mystery Bay on Marrowstone Island so stay tuned.
